Nintendo once owned a baseball team
When you have massive stacks of Super Mario money, you can pretty much buy whatever you want. In 1992, Nintendo's president bought a majority stake in the struggling MLB team just as a gesture of goodwill to the Seattle community where Nintendo of America was headquartered. They held onto the team until 2016, making it the weirdest crossover in corporate sports history.
