If you cannot fix the national debt, you might as well monetize the hobbies of grandpas everywhere. The US Mint operates a wildly profitable side hustle known as its numismatic division. They stamp out 'limited edition' commemorative coins and shiny proof sets, then sell them to collectors at a massive premium over their actual metal or face value. Because these coins are almost never spent in actual circulation, it is effectively pure profit for the Treasury. It is the government's highly successful equivalent of selling rare Pokémon cards.
