Medieval monks believed wearing amethyst crystals prevented you from getting blackout drunk

The original hangover cure was literally just a shiny purple rock. The word 'amethyst' comes from the Greek word 'amethystos,' which translates to 'not intoxicated.' Medieval monks and nobles would wear amethyst rings or drink wine from amethyst goblets, completely convinced that the stone's mystical aura would neutralize the alcohol. Spoiler alert: they still got trashed.
