The business behind the promise

A financial guru who sells a course on becoming rich may make much of their money not from the investments or businesses they teach about, but from selling the teaching itself. A book, seminar, online course, or coaching program can be packaged and sold repeatedly, while the instructor’s personal story gives the product its appeal.

Advertising can turn that appeal into a sales funnel: a free video or webinar draws in viewers, then a paid program offers more detailed instruction. Some businesses add higher-priced coaching, memberships, or events. Each step asks customers to pay for access to the guru’s methods, community, or guidance.

Why the model can be lucrative

Traditional investing usually requires capital and time: returns depend on what happens to the money invested. Selling education works differently. Once a course has been made, it can be delivered to many customers without recreating the whole product for each sale. Marketing, customer support, and updates still cost money, but revenue can grow with the audience.

That creates an important distinction between making money by applying a strategy and making money by teaching that strategy. A guru may have built wealth through real estate, a company, investing, or some combination—and later earn substantial income from products built around that experience. The advertised success story alone does not reveal which source accounts for most of their wealth.

What the pitch leaves unanswered

A claim that someone can teach customers to become millionaires is not the same as evidence that typical customers will do so. The result depends on factors such as starting resources, risk, effort, and market conditions, and a course seller’s income may come from sales rather than from the outcomes students achieve.

The practical question is therefore not only what the guru teaches, but what they are paid for: investment performance, a business they operate, or access to lessons and advice. That distinction can explain how a person becomes wealthy even when the advertised path is uncertain for everyone else.
