Hook: The smartest state in America refuses to participate in our collective biannual delusion. The entire point of daylight saving time is to maximize daylight hours during distinct seasonal shifts. Because Hawaii sits wonderfully close to the equator, the sun rises and sets at virtually the same time all year round regardless of the calendar. Thus, they rightfully decided that arbitrary time-traveling was idiotic and opted out completely, leaving the mainland to suffer.
