Long before walking tours focused on architecture or history, Austria’s capital created a dedicated map just to help tourists find the most aesthetically pleasing places to pee. In the late 19th century, Vienna built lavish, Jugendstil-style public conveniences that were so beautiful they became legitimate attractions. The city actually printed maps explicitly highlighting these fancy toilets, turning baseline biological needs into a sophisticated urban scavenger hunt where you could relieve yourself in a masterpiece of modern design.
