The absolute most stressful part of running a massive corporation is figuring out exactly where to dump the excess capital. Capital allocation is the brutal executive decision of whether to invest in new research, acquire a struggling rival, or just hand the funds back to shareholders, knowing perfectly well that picking the wrong option will eventually cause the business to implode.
