The Bektashi Sufi order has zero interest in your rigid, judgmental religious rules. Founded on the teachings of the 13th-century mystic Haji Bektash Veli, this order embraced "antinomianism"—the deliberate, scandalous breaking of religious laws to prove a philosophical point. While orthodox clerics were busy enforcing strict dietary restrictions and prayer times, Bektashi mystics were known to drink wine (the 'water of life') in public, ignore formal fasting, and use cutting humor to roast hypocritical scholars.
