Nothing says modern financial bureaucracy like paying your property taxes with a live, mooing farm animal. Under an archaic British law that was never technically repealed, citizens could theoretically settle their debts to the Crown using livestock. While the HMRC would probably throw you out of the office if you walked in with a Jersey cow today, the legal framework for bovine-based taxation still lingers in the shadows of the UK economy.
