A banana is a single-use health item
In Sea of Thieves, food works as a quick way to recover health during a fight or while sailing. A player selects a banana and eats it; the game treats the fruit as one usable item, not as a sequence of steps involving peeling, eating, and discarding.
That simplification matters in a game where food may be used under pressure. Stopping to perform several small actions would interrupt play, while a single brief animation lets players focus on choosing when to heal and what to do next.
The peel belongs to the visual joke
Because the game does not give the peel a separate role, the pirate consumes the banana as one comically complete object. The animation turns an ordinary bit of food into a memorable bit of pirate absurdity without adding another rule for players to learn.
The result is a small example of game design in miniature: the health effect is the important mechanic, and the whole banana is the visual shorthand that delivers it.
