Peppermint as a Symbol of Cooling Down
In some esoteric practices, an “aura” is a way to describe the presence or emotional atmosphere someone seems to bring into a room. Saying that peppermint can dampen it frames the herb as a counterweight: when a person’s energy feels forceful or overwhelming, peppermint is associated with cooling, restraint, and settling things down.
That association has an everyday sensory foothold. Peppermint’s menthol can create a cool feeling in the mouth or on the skin, even though it does not actually lower the temperature. The sensation makes “cooling off” a vivid metaphor—but it does not demonstrate that an aura is a measurable field or that peppermint changes one.
What the Practice Is Meant to Do
Within this kind of belief, peppermint is less a scientific instrument than a cue for shifting the mood or intention of a moment. Its imagined role is to soften intensity, not to erase someone’s personality. The key idea is symbolic regulation: using a familiar cooling sensation to represent a calmer, less forceful presence.
