What Eros Adds to an Astrological Chart

Eros is a minor planet named for the Greek god of desire. In modern astrology, some practitioners use its position in a birth chart to explore how attraction feels especially compelling—not as a scientific measure of desire, but as a symbolic prompt for reflection.

Its interpretation depends on more than the asteroid’s name. An astrologer may consider its sign as a description of the style of attraction, its house as the area of life where that theme may arise, and its aspects—angular relationships to other chart points—as links to other parts of the person’s astrological story.

A Symbol, Not a Diagnosis

Eros is often distinguished from broader relationship themes associated with Venus or from assertive drive associated with Mars. The distinction is interpretive rather than universal: astrologers do not all assign the same meanings, and a chart placement cannot establish that someone will become fixated on a particular person or behave in a particular way.

That makes Eros most useful as a question, not a verdict: What kinds of attention or intimacy feel unusually charged, and how does that intensity affect a person’s choices? The point of the symbol is to examine desire’s pull—not to treat attraction as destiny.
