A closer look
As soon as humanity invented something worth driving, we immediately invented grand theft auto. In 1889, a Peugeot vehicle was parked quietly in Paris by its wealthy owner, Baron de Zuylen. His mechanic, presumably bored and lacking modern impulse control, decided to simply take the revolutionary contraption for a wild spin around the city while the Baron was out. The car was eventually recovered, but the absolute audacity of the mechanic forever birthed the criminal tradition of stealing rides just for the thrill of it.
