A closer look

Modern Formula 1 race cars generate so much aerodynamic downforce that theoretically, they could drive completely upside down on the ceiling of a tunnel if going fast enough. The wings and splitters on the car push down on the track with a force greater than the actual weight of the vehicle itself, sticking it to the asphalt like glue. At speeds over one hundred and twenty miles per hour, the downforce would counteract gravity entirely, allowing for a spectacular, physics-defying ceiling drive. Sadly, no driver has ever attempted this outside of computer simulations, largely because motorsports sponsors are not particularly keen on funding an experiment that could end with their multi-million dollar asset falling flat on its head
