From its inception in 1994 until roughly 2001 (and functionally hovering near zero until 2004-2008 depending on the metric), Amazon aggressively poured every single dime of its revenue back into relentless expansion, undercutting competitors, and building terrifyingly massive logistics networks. Wall Street analysts repeatedly called it a massive failure, right up until it established a near-monopoly and suddenly became one of the most profitable entities on the planet.
