A closer look
You are frighteningly confident in data you know is entirely biased. Psychologist Klaus Fiedler coined the term "metacognitive myopia" to describe our bizarre inability to evaluate the quality of the information we consume. If a biased group of people overwhelming votes that a terrible movie is a masterpiece, your brain will subconsciously trust that high rating, even if you are explicitly warned that the voters were paid off. We are highly efficient at processing the raw data right in front of us, but we are dangerously nearsighted when it comes to questioning how that data was gathered in the first place.
