Australia has a mountain called Mount Disappointment
Early explorers were not known for their poetic optimism when naming massive geographical landmarks. In 1824, explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell climbed a strenuous peak in Victoria hoping to see Port Phillip Bay. Instead, a bunch of ugly trees completely blocked their view. Out of sheer annoyance, they officially named the summit Mount Disappointment.
