Hallstatt is a picturesque Austrian alpine village that became so insanely popular with international tourists that a Chinese mining company literally built an exact, full-scale replica of the entire town in the Guangdong province. Despite having a perfectly good clone available in Asia, up to ten thousand visitors still descend upon the actual village of eight hundred residents every day, prompting the desperate mayor to erect massive wooden fences purely to block the scenic photo spots and stop people from taking selfies. It is delightfully unhinged that a town's primary defense mechanism against being loved to death by global travelers is to purposefully make itself as ugly and inaccessible as legally possible
