Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles was the very first music video broadcast on MTV when the network launched on August 1, 1981, but the network immediately followed it up with Pat Benatar's You Better Run and Rod Stewart's She Won't Dance With Me, taking exactly ten minutes for this supposedly revolutionary youth culture television experiment to descend into absolute corporate mediocrity; MTV spent the next four decades slowly abandoning music entirely to focus on heavily tanned teenagers screaming at each other in hot tubs, proving that the radio star was indeed murdered, but the video star eventually died of terrible reality tv programming designed to sell acne cream to susceptible middle schoolers
