The foundation for electronic television didn't come from a mega-corporation, but from a 14-year-old farm boy named Philo Farnsworth. In 1921, while driving a horse-drawn plow in parallel lines across a potato field, he realized that images could be captured and transmitted in a similar sequence of electronic lines. He built the first working prototype by age 21.
