A closer look

You rarely fall for who someone actually is; you fall for the story your brain writes about them. In the first weeks of attraction, your mind fills in every blank with your own desires and fears. That calm person becomes proof that you are finally safe, or that mysterious texter becomes a thrilling escape from your boring routine. This is projection: you use another human as a screen for your unmet needs. The danger is that you mistake emotional intensity for compatibility. You ignore red flags because you are defending the story, not the person. A practical test: describe them without mentioning how they make you feel. Just facts, habits, patterns. If you suddenly have very little to say, you are mostly in love with your own narrative. Real connection starts when you let that fantasy die and notice who is actually standing in front of you.
