Why computers can play chess but struggle to walk
According to Moravec's paradox, making a computer play championship chess is incredibly easy, but making a robot walk up stairs or fold a towel is insanely difficult. The high-level intellect we pride ourselves on takes almost no processing power, while basic sensorimotor skills require massive computation. It turns out being a genius is computationally cheap, but not falling over is a premium feature.
