Libanomancy is a form of divination in which a person interprets the way incense burns. In this reading, smoke that rises in a clear, steady column is associated with victory; smoke that breaks apart or wanders is taken as a warning of trouble. The movement is treated not merely as a by-product of burning, but as a sign to be read.
Why a drifting plume can feel significant
Smoke makes an invisible question seem visible. It forms a shape, changes from moment to moment, and disappears—qualities that invite close attention and interpretation. A scattered plume can therefore carry meaning within the practice even though, physically, smoke also shifts with air currents and the conditions around the incense.
The reading depends on the contrast: a single upward path suggests clarity or success, while a disrupted one suggests obstacles. The omen lies in how the smoke behaves, not simply in the fact that incense is burning.
