Long before crypto bros tried to reinvent currency, Josiah Warren decided standard money was a scam and opened the Cincinnati Time Store. He priced goods and transport based on the literal hours of labor it took to produce them, meaning you could buy passage with a physical note promising to chop wood for three hours, turning exhaustion into legal tender.
