A closer look

Costa Rica has specialized sloth crossings built directly over busy highways, which are literally just thick ropes suspended in the air to keep the painfully slow creatures from becoming roadkill. Imagine evolving to be so remarkably inefficient and lethargic that the government has to install dedicated overhead infrastructure just so you don't get obliterated by a rental car full of sunburned eco-tourists. It is a beautiful testament to human conservation efforts, but also a hilarious reminder that some species would absolutely not survive the modern world without us treating them like toddlers who need a heavily padded safety harness just to cross the street!
