A closer look

Your bank account is quietly ruled by stories you absorbed before you even earned your first dollar. If you grew up hearing "rich people are greedy" or "we are just not money people," your brain may sabotage opportunities because wealth feels like betrayal. This is not mystical; it is cognitive dissonance. When your behavior (earning more, saving, investing) clashes with your identity story, you feel internal friction and often "forget," delay, or downplay actions that would help you. That is why some people raise their income and instantly increase their spending back to zero: wealth outside does not match the script inside. Others hoard money but cannot enjoy it, because their story says poverty is always one step away. The uncomfortable work is to drag those scripts into the light and ask, who taught me this, and were they actually financially successful? Until you rewrite the narrative, every budget is a bandage.
