A closer look
When a server enthusiastically suggests the most outrageously expensive beverage on the menu, they are not looking out for your palate. This is a classic principal-agent misalignment, where the server's primary goal is to aggressively inflate the final total simply to secure a proportionately larger gratuity. They will gleefully recommend heavily overpriced liquids, completely indifferent to your actual enjoyment, as long as the mathematical percentage works in their favor.
