Unless the author is a rigorous culinary professional, the gorgeous cookbook you just bought is full of culinary gambles. Publishing houses rarely hire independent kitchens to actually cook and verify the hundreds of recipes submitted for a manuscript. That burnt cake is not entirely your fault; the measurements might have just been guessed by a tired writer.
