A closer look
Television shows historically cared about one arbitrary numerical milestone more than actual critical acclaim. Reaching the hundred-episode mark was the magical threshold where a series could be sold into permanent reruns for local broadcast stations. Once a program crossed that finish line, the creators and network locked in a permanent revenue stream that required zero new effort. This is exactly why so many mediocre sitcoms dragged on for exactly five seasons before abruptly ending.
