Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo loved the slang word 'yahoo' (meaning rude or uncouth), but they forced it into a massive, pretentious backronym just to sound legitimate. It is a miracle anyone ever trusted an 'officious oracle' to give them sports scores and early 2000s chat rooms.
