Tennis rackets were once strung with sheep intestines

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Vegans would have absolutely hated early tennis. For centuries, the bouncy strings on a racket were made from 'natural gut'—which is a polite way of saying the stretched, dried, and twisted intestines of farm animals. A single racket required the guts of about three sheep, making it a very grim day at the farm.
