Why a Fabric Roll Helps Keep Necklaces Apart
A necklace tangles when its chain has room to swing, bend into loops, and catch on itself—or on another chain—as luggage shifts. Once two loose loops cross, continued movement can tighten them into a knot. The roll helps by limiting that movement: wrapping the necklace flat keeps more of its length supported instead of dangling freely.
A Small Change in How You Pack
The key is not simply softness. Fabric can hold the chain against a stable surface without the hard pressure of a rigid case, while the rolled shape makes a compact bundle that is easier to keep together in a suitcase. When necklaces are placed separately on the fabric, they are less able to cross paths during bumps and turns.
This is most useful for fine chains, which can form tight knots that take time to undo. Before rolling, lay each necklace flat and fasten its clasp so the chain is less likely to slip into a loop. The payoff is practical: instead of unpacking a loose cluster of jewelry, you can open the roll and find each chain where you left it.
