A calculated point, not a planet
In astrology, a marriage point is a symbolic position derived from a birth chart rather than a celestial body. The calculation starts with the ascendant—the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon at birth—then adds one planetary position and subtracts another. Because chart positions are measured around a 360-degree circle, the result is expressed as a degree on the zodiac wheel.
What the arithmetic is meant to do
This kind of calculation belongs to a family of chart points sometimes called lots or parts. Its purpose is to combine several chart factors into one place that astrologers can interpret. The resulting degree may fall in a zodiac sign or near a planet, and a practitioner may read those connections as clues about partnership themes.
The formula does not identify a future spouse or produce a date for marriage. It gives astrologers a symbolic reference point within the chart, whose meaning depends on the interpretive tradition and the rest of the chart. That is why the same calculated degree can be treated as one element of a reading rather than a stand-alone prediction.
The striking feature is how much meaning the method assigns to a point that has no physical presence in the sky: its significance comes from the relationships built into the arithmetic.
