How musket tools became corkscrews

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Drinking wine used to require a distressing amount of brute force. The elegant twisting mechanism we use to aggressively yank corks out of bottles was directly adapted from a brutal military tool called a gun worm, which soldiers used to scrape out unfired musket balls and wadding from their jammed rifles. Someone just realized that the exact same twisted metal was great for unjamming their evening merlot.
