Thomas Aquinas required a customized semi-circular desk

Scholastic theology is heavy work, and it clearly took a physical toll. Aquinas grew to such massive bodily proportions later in life that standard monastic furniture wouldn't fit his girth, forcing carpenters to cut a large semi-circle out of his desk just so he could reach his parchment.
