Nothing screams 'infernal majesty' like a rusty slide whistle. Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, loved theatricality for his dark rituals, but he wasn't exactly working with a Hollywood budget. He often used an inexpensive, oddball brass instrument called a 'waterphone' to create creepy, atonal squeaks during his Black Masses. The terrifying ambient sounds of the underworld were literally just an eccentric guy aggressively bowing a weird metal salad bowl in his basement.
