A closer look
It only takes one brilliant audio trick to absolutely decimate Hollywood's creativity. When composer Hans Zimmer and sound designer Richard King collaborated on the Inception soundtrack, they manipulated Edith Piaf’s song "Non, je ne regrette rien" by massively slowing it down and blasting it through roaring brass instruments. This created the infamous, world-shaking "BRAAAM" sound effect that perfectly encapsulated existential dread. Unfortunately, it sounded so unbelievably cool that lazy studio executives demanded it be plastered over every single action, sci-fi, and superhero trailer for the next ten years, turning a genius thematic motif into a deeply irritating industry cliché.
