Forget high-stakes corporate espionage; sometimes cybercrime is just profoundly weird. In the late 1990s, when celebrity fan sites were the pinnacle of web traffic, Russian hackers successfully infiltrated and took down the official fan website for the Olsen twins. The masterminds demanded a ransom to restore the data, but clearly misjudged their target audience, asking for a laughably specific and low sum of just $20,000. Apparently, hacking tween sitcom stars wasn't the goldmine they anticipated.
