We are casually trusting our entire digital legacy to hard drives that die in five years, so the Long Now Foundation decided to be the adults in the room. They created the Rosetta Disk, a three-inch sphere of nickel microscopically etched with over 1,500 human languages. Since nickel doesn't rust, warp, or require a proprietary Apple dongle to read, it is designed to survive 10,000 years. If aliens or post-apocalyptic mutants find it, they just need a really good magnifying glass to read our collective babbling.
