The strange chord that changed modern music

In 1865, composer Richard Wagner actively included a profoundly strange arrangement of notes in his dark opera Tristan und Isolde. The profoundly agonizing Tristan chord intensely defied all highly established rigid rules of traditional musical resolution, directly forcing massive tension on the bewildered listener and entirely single-handedly sparking the incredibly chaotic evolution of sweeping modern atonal music.
