The prestigious television award came dangerously close to having the worst name in showbiz. They originally considered 'Ike' after the iconoscope tube used in early cameras. Realizing that sounded like a terrible bowling trophy, they pivoted to 'Immy', which eventually evolved into Emmy. It completely saved actors from tearfully thanking the academy for their shiny golden Ike.
