Why witch hazel can make skin feel tighter
Witch hazel contains astringent compounds, including tannins. When applied to skin, these compounds interact with proteins near the surface, creating a temporary tightening or “drawing” sensation. The change is superficial: it does not permanently firm skin or shrink deeper tissue.
The tradeoff behind the sensation
That same surface effect can leave skin feeling dry or tight, especially if the product is used often or does not suit the person’s skin. Dryness is not evidence that the skin has become firmer; it is a sign that the surface may need gentler care or moisturizing.
