Pregnancy is physically demanding enough, but Daoist matriarch Wei Huacun decided to gestate an immortal spirit baby inside her own spleen. Daoist inner alchemy (Neidan) abandons the quest for literal immortality pills, which were historically full of lethal mercury. Instead, it uses intense visualization to turn the physical body into a metaphorical crucible. By circulating 'qi' and visualizing stellar constellations taking residence in her internal organs, Wei forged an indestructible, golden energy-body that could just casually walk out of her physical corpse at the time of death.
