Half-Life was revolutionary in 1998 for telling its entire narrative strictly from a first-person perspective without ever taking control away from the player with cutscenes. Gordon Freeman never utters a single word throughout the entire franchise, yet he is widely considered one of the greatest protagonists in video game history. This just goes to show that you can save the world from an interdimensional alien invasion, and people will absolutely love you as long as you keep your mouth shut and bash headcrabs with a crowbar instead of delivering self-righteous monologues
