Gliders are towed into the sky by standard airplanes

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Because unpowered aircraft literally lack the means to take off, they rely entirely on parasitic hitchhiking. A perfectly normal tow plane drags the glider down the runway by a long rope until it catches enough air to fly. Once high enough, the glider casually unclips the tether and leaves the tow plane to fly home alone.
