Overfitted models memorize answers instead of learning

Sometimes a machine learning model scores 100% on its training test not because it is smart, but because it cheated. 'Overfitting' occurs when an algorithm perfectly memorizes the exact training data rather than learning the underlying concepts. The second you show it anything new in the real world, it spectacularly fails, much like a terrible student.
