Congratulations, you are one cent richer and supposedly invincible for the rest of the day. Finding metal was originally seen as a gift from subterranean gods. The caveat was that the coin had to be found face up, representing an open, positive flow of fortune. Picking up a face-down coin meant you were eagerly volunteering to inherit someone else's misery.
