Video game composer Grant Kirkhope designed the pause menu music for the legendary shooter GoldenEye to be so incredibly catchy that players would deliberately stop their game just to listen to it; instead of treating the pause screen as an afterthought, the development team created an absolute masterpiece of an industrial synth track that perfectly captured the feeling of being an elite British spy waiting on hold, and decades later, millions of nostalgic millennials still have this specific low-resolution audio loop permanently burned into their brains, proving that the most memorable part of a revolutionary action game was the screen you looked at when you needed to go to the bathroom
