A closer look
The very first home video game console in 1972 didn't actually generate any colorful graphics or complex levels. The Magnavox Odyssey merely pushed two pathetic white squares around a blank screen. To make the game look like tennis or roulette, players had to physically tape static-cling plastic overlays directly onto their expensive cathode-ray tube televisions. It was the technological equivalent of playing make-believe with extra steps.
