The mandated V-chip in older televisions didn't analyze the actual content on screen. It purely read encoded demographic metadata hidden inside the broadcast stream. If a network forgot to tag their violently inappropriate late-night feed correctly, the chip would blissfully let it through, rendering the entire moral panic technology completely useless.
